Scottish Exotic Animal Rescue - Nick Martin's

All About Nick

Name?
Nick Martin

Where are you from?
I was born and raised in the countryside of New Zealand. When I was a teenager my family moved to Scotland but I have travelled the world in search of all new creepy crawlies.

Have you always loved nature?
YES! Being brought up in the countryside of New Zealand really cemented this for me and I have always had a passion for all things nature. My whole childhood was pretty much spent out in the bush finding all sorts of weird and wonderful creatures from Giant Weta's to Hu Hu Beetles and centipedes. I used to bring back all sorts back home with me from my adventures (much to my parents horror!) Thankfully they didn't know about the secret mini zoo of creatures I had managed to collect that lived under my bed. I used to bring my little critters to school with me and sometimes they escaped. Unfortunately the teachers and the girls in the class did not share my passion so there would be plenty of screams! This meant that many a lunch time I spent writing lines on the blackboard saying "I must not bring animals to class". Looking back now, I feel it was still worth it.

What made you decide to set up Scottish Exotic Animal Rescue?
As I have said previously I have always had a great passion for all the weird and wonderful creatures the world has to offer. The exotic animal trade has increased rapidly over a number of years and unfortunately now more than ever more of these amazing creatures are being neglected and abused. My aim is to help as many of these cases as possible but to also educate the public on how to care for these specialist animals
